Heat Network Efficiency Scheme: New funding round to improve heat network performance
Round 11 of the popular Heat Network Efficiency Scheme is now officially open for applications.
If your organisation operates a district or communal heat network in England or Wales, this scheme offers grant support for Optimisation Studies and capital measures, to help you upgrade and improve performance.
HNES aims
The aim of HNES is to improve heat network performance in existing / operational projects where customers and/or operators are experiencing sub-optimal outcomes.
The scheme’s greatest focus is on improving outcomes for consumers impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and the cost-of-energy crisis, looking at where customer need is greatest.
HNES eligibility
HNES is open to organisations that are responsible for operating or managing existing district heat networks or communal heating systems in England and Wales. This includes public, private and third sectors.
The application process is competitive, and priority will be given to projects that will deliver the greatest impact in terms of addressing customer need and delivering efficiency/performance improvements.
Phase 11 applications close on 6th February 2026.
You can read more in our quick guide to HNES. Or, get in touch with us for advice. Concept can help you prepare a robust, evidence-based application, and conduct Optimisation Studies in line with scheme requirements.
