Carbon consultancy emphasises opportunity offered by demand side reduction
The National Grid has put out two new tenders for energy balancing services to mitigate power shortages in the UK.
The first scheme, called Demand Side Balancing Reserve service (DSBR), is seeking large energy users who are able to reduce their electricity use. These businesses will be invited to voluntarily cut their power usage, in return for a payment, during the winter peak hours of 4pm – 8pm.
The second service is called Supplemental Balancing Reserve and will incentivise power plants, which would otherwise be closed or mothballed, to stay open to help meet demand on winter weekdays. At Concept Energy Solutions, an energy monitoring and targeting expert, we know that times of increased energy concerns heighten the need for better control of energy, so that any supply difficulties can be managed effectively.
Concept Energy is a specialist in building control and Peter Stockwell, one of our directors, says: “You’d be surprised by how easy it can be to make significant energy savings. As a footprint reporting firm that conducts energy surveys, we have helped many businesses identify simple but effective energy-efficient upgrades.”
He adds: “Seize the opportunities out there to boost resilience to rising energy prices. You won’t regret the cuts to your bills!”
