Concept Energy Director set for gruelling charity cycling challenge
A senior director from Concept Energy is preparing to raise funds for four charities by taking part in a gruelling cycling challenge.
Richard Pennington, Technical Director at one of the UK’s leading independent carbon and water management consultancies, will undertake three endurance cycling events as he marks his 50th birthday in his ‘3 4 50’ Challenge.
The first part of the challenge will be the London2Brighton event – a 54-mile ride from the capital city to the coast, which Richard is participating in for the British Heart Foundation.
The second ride, in aid of the Royal British Legion, will see Richard cycle more than 250km over two days from Dover to Ypres in remembrance of the incredible sacrifices made by those who fought in both World Wars with a focus on the 75th anniversary of VE day.
His final event will be the London100 in memory of two of Richard’s friends who lost their battle against cancer with funds raised going to the Sue Ryder and St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire).
Richard, who had two major operations after falling ill himself, is hoping to raise a total of £3,000 for the charities and is well on his way to reaching this target.
Richard commented: “This is an extremely personal challenge. I have always cycled but didn’t know if I would be able to again after my treatment. Being able to get back on my bike inspired me to come up with the idea of the ‘3 4 50’ Challenge and do something to support other people. Each cycle ride is a feat of endurance but it’s all for a good cause and I am humbled at the amount of support I have already had. The charities I am raising money for are extremely close to my own heart and being able to raise funds for these funds for them is very gratifying and I hope to be able to do them all proud.”
