Not yet ESOS-compliant? Don’t panic. Ask for help.
With the ESOS deadline less than 2 weeks away – companies who are unable (for whatever reason) to file their completed audit by 5th December 2015 should seek guidance rather than panic. This the message from our team of approved ESOS Lead Assessors to the hundreds of organisations who are expected to miss the deadline.
What can you do next?
Our advice is very simple:
- December 5th is a serious deadline. But, don’t panic!
- Contact our ESOS team – we will talk you through the process and the quickest route to compliance.
- You must register your anticipated lateness ASAP. (We have listed the questions they will ask you below).
- When you register your late filing – you will need to specify that you have appointed a Approved Lead Assessor – such as Concept.
- We undertake the audit(s) and to ensure your organisation meets every aspect of the legislation.
What information do you need to give the EA?
As we have already explained, if you know that you are not going to meet the 5 December 2015 deadline, you need to inform the Environment Agency by that date using their online portal. This ‘Intent to Comply’ notification will ask you to provide the following information;
- Organisational group name
- Trading name
- Registered office location
- Company registration number
- Whether the notification is on behalf of a trust
- Overseas parent name
- Number of organisations covered by the notification
- Contact details for a day to day contact
- Contact details for the board director that will be signing off your full ESOS compliance
- The principal reasons you are going to be late
- What you have left to do after the deadline
- When you expect to be compliant
- Whether you have appointed a lead assessor yet and if so their name, contact details and professional body.
- If you are going to comply fully via ISO 50001, your certification body and whether you have evidence from them that you are on target to comply by 30 June 2016.
Use ESOS as an Opportunity. Avoid the fines
With potential fines in excess of £50k for non compliance, you need to take action today – any further delay will simply cost your organisation more in the long-run. The sooner you progress your ESOS compliance process (and the sooner it is completed) the sooner you will have the reassurance of avoiding the possibility of EA’s enforcement action.
