Two-month grace period for ESOS compliance
The long-awaited IT system for Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) compliance is now live, according to the latest update from the Environment Agency (EA).
In response to the delays, the EA has relaxed its enforcement position for firms in scope.
IT system update
The online compliance portal – called Manage your Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (MESOS) – launched on 19th March. It will be released in two stages.
From 19th March, participants can register their user and organisational accounts.
In the second half of April 2024 (exact date to be confirmed), Participants will be able to start filling in their notifications of compliance.
Enforcement extension
Given the late “go-live” date for the IT system, the EA is delaying enforcement action on non-compliant firms.
It says, “the deadline for submitting a compliance notification is the 5th June 2024 and organisations should still look to meet this compliance notification where possible. However, the Environment Agency and Regulators for the Devolved Administrations will not take enforcement action against you if you do not comply with this legal requirement provided that you meet both the following conditions:
- registration of your account in the new IT system has been completed by the 5 June 2024, and
- you submit your notification of compliance by the 6 August 2024.”
