Study reveals the business benefits of green retrofits
in Viewpoint
A major new survey has shown that energy saving upgrades to existing buildings improves their asset value and reduces operating costs.
The World Green Building Trends 2018 survey interviewed more than 2,000 industry participants across 86 countries, and found compelling data on the business benefits of both new and retrofit green building projects.
What were the financial benefits of green retrofits?
- Nearly half (44%) of study respondents had conducted green retrofit projects
- More than half believe they’ll see savings of more than 10% in the next year
- Almost two thirds expect to see that level of savings in the next 5 years
- Nearly all owners (94%) believe that their buildings are more valuable after conducting green retrofit projects
The survey found that electrical products, thermal and moisture protection and building automation systems were the top three retrofit products specified.
Drivers for change
While client demands and environmental regulation were the top reasons for green building projects, creating healthier buildings was third – reflecting a growing focus in this area globally. Improving occupant health ranked first among the social reasons for building green.
